Final Four

I cannot figure out where the time's been going. I did a little "what have I done lately that I can post on the blog?" mental excursion and came up with "Aha! March Madness!" Then I actually looked it up and oh boy, that was three weeks ago. Well, I hope you'll bear with me anyway. I will admit that not having cable means not following basketball as closely as I'd like, but I'm still a staunch UNC fan. Once they were out of the tournament, I started doing what any good UNC fan would do and rooting for any team playing Duke. That...didn't go well.
I happen to work right near where the major Final Four activities were occurring and this beautiful thing went up about a week before the games.
To appreciate the size of this Marriott, you unfortunately kind of had to be there, but check out the teeny tiny cars in the parking lot! I was so enamored with this majestic site that it almost made me forget about my poor, destroyed bracket.
As part of the Final Four festivities they have a little music festival, where this cool Ferris wheel was housed. We didn't get a chance to go on it, but it was a pretty sight all the same.
And last, but almost certainly best, was the music itself. This brilliant light show is courtesy of Imagine Dragons, who put on an amazing show, despite that it was cold, rainy, and windy the evening of the concert. I came home with muddy boots and the kind of clarity that only comes from commiserating with strangers at concerts and went to bed so content.....until Wisconsin broke my heart a few short days later.

Real Madness

I have been benched, for lack of a better word (and pun totally intended), the last few days as my cold turned into an ear infection and nothing felt better than just lying in bed getting in some good tv time with a little soup. Of course, I watched my traditional I Love Lucy and might have watched all the episodes of The Mindy Project (which by the way, I love), but nothing has been more exciting than March Madness!!

I love basketball, but it's way more fun to watch college ball when your school is in it, I swear. And this tournament has been nuts so far! Crazy upsets all over the place! Harvard? What the hell?! Gonzaga?! And I'm watching Indiana struggle as I write this post! WTF. The Big Dance ain't never been so nuts! Let's not even talk about how badly screwed my bracket is at this point.

I should probably be catching up on all the work I haven't done all week, but instead I'm going to watch the UNC-Kansas game and hope that this crazy upset madness means that UNC will win! Go Heels!

Edit: I refuse to hear about the game. At least there's still Duke to root against.

It's Time For Some College Ball!!

Now that I'm finally in a place big name basketball teams and a lot of good spirit, I'm super excited for college basketball to start! The two biggest conferences face off tonight and tomorrow to in a huge challenge before season kick-off in January. Carolina vs. Indiana, Duke vs. Ohio State, Georgia Tech vs. Illinois, Purdue vs. Clemson. These two nights should be good! Now if only I could finish 2 projects, a paper, a take-home test, prepare for a presentation, and finish a critique all due this week before then so I could watch in peace.

p.s. GO TAR HEELS!

Game Day!

I mentioned my Trinity before, and I want to introduce you guys to another member of it. I've posted about them before, too, but my disappointment in the last season doesn't even begin to cover how much I love the Phoenix Suns.

Today is the official beginning of the 2010-2011 season! I am really excited and nervous about this season for several reasons, the main one of which is the new lineup. I got to see them practice because they had training camp at my college this year. I noticed that the game seemed a little slower, a bit off, but I ignored it because, really, I have faith that we'll get that chemistry back soon enough. And, plus I had a conversation with Head Coach Alvin gentry, Josh Childress signed my shoe, and I got to watch my hero, Steve Nash, practice, so really, I had nothing to complain about. I'm so excited for the season!!

Lakers on Friday; BEAT LA!

The 2009-10 Phoenix Suns

My heart's broken. I love my team and I miss them already.

I haven't quite figured out how to do cuts (or if I can even do html cuts) on this, so I'm just going to cross-post this from my livejournal, because it's easier that way.

Here's to you, 2009-10 Phoenix Suns!
You put up a really brilliant fight!
And no matter what happens next year, you'll not be forgotten.

A New Day

The world looks really awesome through darkly red-tinted sunglasses. I bought these recently, because, as usual, I had lost my old pair within 6 months of having purchased it. Usually, I dislike such a dark tint, but my contact-laden eyes have gotten more light-sensitive since the Accutane, so I went for them. It's a beautiful sunny San Diego day and every thing I've looked at while walking has looked way more awesome than usual. It's full-out Photoshop tint madness! The trees with the red leaves (whose name I tried to find but was unsuccessful) look like there are flaming embers at the tip of each leaf. I realize I sound like I might be high, but this is really very cool. And it is my sense of wonder at the world that now has me skipping class to sit on a pretty little hill and read.
It's a really good thing today is gorgeous, because otherwise I would be monumentally depressed.

I am an incredibly avid fan of the Phoenix Suns, having grown up there and begun my venture into basketball watching just before Amar'e Stoudemire was selected straight out of high school to the Suns in 2002. They had a pretty good thing going then with Stephon Marbury, Shawn Marion and Amar'e making for a strong offense, but overall the team lacked a unifying driving force. The heart was missing. Then, in 2004, Steve Nash was traded to Phoenix from Dallas and everything changed. That season, the Suns had the best record in the league, but fell to the San Antonio Spurs in the conference finals, beginning one of the most intense rivalries in the league. I cried when they lost. Now, this year, with a bit of a different, but very strong, team, we finally beat them (swept 4-0!) and now we're facing another of our most challenging rivals, the infamous Lakers. Watch the clip. In the last second of last night's game, my heart just completely broke.
